Samsung Ln LCD

Got this TV after extensive research. A few reasons why I bought it:

- Top of the Line. No panel lottery, etc (got SQ01 version mfg Dec 09).
- 240Hz
- Pinacle of LCD television development, LED TV’s still have many Picture Quality issues, especially in the price range of the TV (i.e. UN46B6000).
- Most excellent Reviews, best PQ of any LCD TV reviewed by CNET.
- Internet connectivity, widgets, work great!
- Amazing picture adjustability.
- Esthetically beautiful.

While there are other 52″ LCD TV’s in the price range, like the LN52B630, while larger, it’s older technology and doesnt have all the features of this TV, its 120Hz and costs about the same.

I do have some negatives to talk about: The remote is not very responsive. The Yahoo widgets also are fairly slow. The glare on the screen can be noticeable.

Overall, if PQ is what matters most, this TV is for you. I love it and for 99 shipped its a great bang for your buck.

Having worked previously as an electronics salesman, I have a working knowledge of HDTVs. I always recommended the Samsung models as “among the best,” but never had seen one within a home and running as most consumers would. Until recently …
My mother owns this model and has for a few weeks now. It’s classy-looking with a glossy outer bezel and an oval stand (included). The TV itself seems larger than the competitors, simply because the speakers are located on the sides. This helps give a more natural-sounding stereo effect without the extra cost of a home theater system. It’s just got a high-end, quality look to it. Samsung LCDs are renowned for having a top-notch viewing angle. This holds true with this model. Stand nearly 180° to the side, and the picture is still bright and clear. LCDs have come a long way in a few short years.
The remote is well-marked and easy to use. TV-accessed menus are simple and quick to navigate. My mother, not well-versed in knowledge of consumer electronics, was able to configure the settings herself with very little help.
Unlike lower-end competitors, though, this 3-series Samsung does not offer any separate composite hookups (the 3 red, white, and yellow plugs). One of the component hookups must be used in place. If you have, say, a DVD/VCR combo, Dish Network (non-HD), and a Nintendo Wii to all hookup, you’re out of luck. There simply isn’t room for more than 2 non-HD inputs. It can be annoying to have to repeatedly unplug and replug items into your new TV. If you plan on using at least one of the HDMI plugs, though, this problem is avoided. However, be aware that most direct competitors do offer more non-HD hookups.
For the price, you can find larger TVs. Big retailers are often willing to sell last year’s models at cheaper prices (ie 720p TVs) because most people spending 0+ want the latest and greatest. If you just want a quality TV and you plan on using the HDMI hookups for true High Definition viewing, this is probably the best picture you’ll find. I made sure my mom knew what to look for when she went shopping – and she agreed by getting this one.

I bought this TV after a lot of research and deliberation. I saw the LN46A540 at Costco and I liked it. But at the same time I realized that this TV didn’t have the 120Hz feature. Prior to that I had talked to the sales guys at Circuit City and Best Buy and they had told me that Auto motion plus was really worth spending my money on. So when a friend of mine bought the LN46A650, I borrowed it from him for a few days. I then
went to Costco, bought this TV and put both next to each other in my house and played the same blu-ray movie on both.

Honestly there was no perceptible difference in the picture quality. The blacks on both were almost equally dark and the colors equally rich. In some very fast moving scenes, the judder elimination was slightly noticeable on the 650 but that was only when I viewed the movie from a distance of 4 feet or less.
From a distance of 15 feet (where I normally view it) I didn’t notice any difference at all. I concluded that it was not worth spending an additional 0 (Best Buy’s price) on the 650.

There are also some things I hate about the 650.

The remote control – The rotating dial sucks. Try navigating through TV menu using it and you’ll be as frustrated and furious as I was.

Firmware issue – The 540 did not have the firmware issue that plagues the 650 series. With the 650 it was so frustrating to find that a TV, brand new out of the box was turning itself off at regular intervals. I can’t understand why Samsung can’t apply the patch even before shipping the TV. The firmware problem has been around for a while now.

I spent 99 (after the 0 discount) on the 540 from Costco and I’m very happy with it.
The only reason why I gave a 4 star rating is because the sound quality is lousy. But the 650 was no better either. I was getting better sound quality on my 0 32 inch Sharp. Samsung should really do something to improve the sound quality on their 500 and 600 series since they are charging so much for them.

I like this TV a lot i bought it to take advantage of my Xbox 360’s component inputs and it doesn’t disappoint. I also bought it to replace my desktops monitor and i works wonderfully for that also. The fact that i am using it for both stipulated switching between them flawlessly, however there is a flaw, due to the need to make it receive exceptional antenna signals from the TV tuner it always picks up {Air} as one of the current inputs and so switching between them is a bit more frustrating then originally anticipated. This is just me rambling though i still love the TV and think its a wonderful investment for anyone!!!

I am able to review this TV because of the savings Amazon provided over in town pricing on another TV we purchased through them, the Samsung LN-T4069F (you will also notice some cut and paste of the review I did for that TV as many of Samsungs feature set are the same on both TVs). The savings alone on our other purchase made this purchase possible.

I did the mandatory research (as most of you have) before purchasing this TV and am extremely happy with my purchase. Having the LN-T4069F for a bit allowed us to have our faith in Samsung confirmed.

I was worried about the shipping process (and damage horror stories) on this unit as it was shipped UPS (vs. Eagle on the LN-T4069F). However the worries were unfounded. The unit arrived in perfect condition.

The TV is excellent for this category. The picture is awesome in HD. SD does not look very good compared to a CRT, but for a 26″, it is not nearly as bad looking as a 40″. I am one of those people that refuses to stretch a 4:3 image to widescreen so the size of the 4:3 image was important to me, and on this TV (because I found no specs or mention of this on any web site) the non stretched 4:3 picture is 13″ H, 18″W which is 22″ Diagonal. This is secondary TV for us, so unlike the need for 120Hz on the LN-T4069F for gaming and watching motorsports, we chose this standard LCD since budget was an issue. Although I have not played video games on it, there is the normal LCD motion blur in fast moving action, to be expected but not as bad as I thought without the 120Hz feature.

The sound is good for TV of this size. You have decent stereo separation, and the TruSurround XT does a nice job. Small speakers like these do have decent sound, nice for built ins, but don’t expect any bass.

Cons:
Unless it is a hidden feature that I have yet to find, you cannot custom name your inputs. Even my 27″ Panasonic TV purchase in 2000 allowed you to custom name your inputs to whatever you like. On this TV you have only presets choices (such as HD STB, Game, DVD, etc). You can’t input things such as Xbox 360, Cox HD Cable and the like. It is hard to believe a feature like this missing, but I won’t downgrade the overall score of the TV for something so small that really has no bearing on the quality of build and picture of this unit.

The base does not provide any swivel or adjustments at all, it is a fixed unit.

This television is outstanding. In my opinion it blows away it’s contemporaries from Sony, LG, Toshiba. I find it to be as clear or clearer than the Samsung LED television. The end user options and adjustments make this TV easy to configure to the users desires. Deep blacks, vibrant colors. Depending on the source and the content, you may find some of the anti-blur features (240hz) need to be adjusted. On certain sources and or content, the feature can make it too sharp. I know that sounds strange, but it looks more like video than film. But it is easy to adjust by the sets own presets OR it allows you to adjust it to your liking with a custom setting that allows you to adjust the anti-blur and the anti-judder feature.

Looks outstanding with HD cable TV, BluRay, PS3 and Xbox 360. I did 3 months of research and this was the TV that stopped me dead in my tracks. No buyers remorse. If this TV is only your list, then make sure you go somewhere to see it.
